FAQs
The answers to your questions
Where are newborn sessions done?
I do newborn sessions on location at the home, where your family is most comfortable and I can capture the "real life" shots that you live everyday.
What is the best timeframe for a newborn session?
My newborn sessions are shot anytime within the first month of baby's life, very rarely before baby is one week old. Some photographers prefer baby to be as small and sleepy as possible - my preference is actually that mom is feeling better from whatever those first few days looked like for her. If this means baby is a month old, that's great!
How long does a newborn session take?
Newborn sessions usually last on average around two hours. Sessions are not strictly timed, and I do go with baby's flow; mid-session feedings and snack breaks are totally normal and won't hinder the session at all.
How much do newborn sessions cost?
My newborn sessions start at $800.
Do you pose baby for the portraits?
I do not pose baby! I prefer a lifestyle approach to newborn sessions. This means that I don't spend time lulling baby to sleep for his/her pictures because I do not need baby to be asleep for the session. Your baby may sleep some, and that is fine. However, if you are looking for a photographer who does the sleepy-posed baby portraits, please know that this is not me!
Does the whole family participate? Can grandparents attend?
Newborn sessions typically include baby, mom, dad, siblings, and even pets if requested. It is not uncommon for a grandparent to be present to assist with wrangling kiddos while mom and dad focus on baby, and in this situation I'm always happy to snap a few of grandparent + baby/grandkids. However, extensive participation and/or including other extended family will incite additional fees.
How do we prepare for our session? What do we need to do?
I actually have a super helpful PDF that I send just after booking that will give several tips for preparation to ensure our session is a success.
Will you travel outside of the Triangle area of North Carolina?
I love to travel and am always happy to meet new clients in other locations. Please be mindful that any session outside of my 30 mile travel radius will incite additional fees based on location.
